A Guide to

Back to the

SHOWROOM

 More than likely the most pressing question before starting your remodel is, “How much will my cabinets cost?” Well, fear not. I will tell you everything I know about how to price out cabinets, how the industry and retailers prices cabinets, and how some retailers use smoke and mirrors to make you think that you’re getting a deal by buying your cabinets from them, and not another retailer. We’ll also cover the different types of cabinet doors which you’ll be seeing at most cabinet retailers.

The kitchen industry pricing can be very confusing at first, and not very accurate from the final price of your finished kitchen project.  Don’t worry.  You’ll soon be able to confidently walk into any kitchen showroom and ballpark price any kitchen cabinet, to the size of your kitchen. The kitchen industry model which is used when pricing out any particular door style in a kitchen is always a 10’ x 10’ model, which is basically one ten foot wall, by one ten foot wall.

As you first walk into a cabinet dealer and start walking through the showroom, you’ll notice pricing on the kitchen displays and also on the back of each specific door, in each vendor selling center. It will look something like this;

Don’t let yourself get overwhelmed or confused. The prices you’ll see are how the kitchen industry prices out cabinets in a typical 10’ x 10’ pricing model. These prices are accurate in their own sense, but very unrealistic. I will soon show you how to use a formula I made, so that you’ll be able to get a ballpark price on any door style you wish, within seconds. When I use my formula the ballpark price is usually within $400 of either side on the final price of the kitchen, providing that the kitchen isn’t loaded up with too many “bells & whistles”. However, don’t get too confused. The most probable thought on your mind right now is how much your kitchen will finally end up costing. Remember, no matter what the prices on the doors may say, the only price you need to worry about is your specific final price (shipping & sales tax included). You won’t be able to get a “to the penny” price on your cabinets until your kitchen design is completed, with all of the accessories and cabinets placed to your particular liking. Let’s get started…

On the back of the doors you’ll see all of the pertinent information you’ll need to guide you in ballpark pricing your kitchen in that particular door style. Looking at the pricing card which we just displayed, we can see the name of the door style, followed by the wood species that this door is priced in. It shows $3340 for a 10X10 kitchen, which equals $167 per lineal foot.
